Karishma has been a practicing counselor since 2016, beginning her career working with homeless women suffering from mental disorders and substance abuse as well as co-morbidity. Shortly after, Karishma transitioned into working with adolescents and their families in an intensive outpatient hospital. Over the course of the years, Karishma accrued an array of experience working with children, teens, adults, couples and families, struggling with depression, anxiety, self-identity crises, familial and relational struggles, adjustment disorder, trauma, and grief.
Education and Training
Karishma graduated with her bachelor’s degree in journalism from University of Houston, followed by her Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from University of St. Thomas, also located in the heart of Houston.
Passion and Specialization
Karishma brings forth a cognitive behavioral approach, believing that if one can retrain their thoughts, they can change their perspective. This mind set shift can then have them feeling better in return. She truly believes that sometimes the mind is the only thing in our control even though it doesn’t seem like it at times. Not only will you and your family be in the hands of a nonjudgmental or noncritical therapist, but you can rest assured knowing that Karishma will be your sounding board. Allowing for kindness, true genuineness, necessary honesty and growth. It will be collaborative work, with you or your loved one in the driver’s seat and Karishma in the passenger, but together the goal will be the same, the goal will be to get to a good destination.
Though well versed in many areas, Karishma has a passion for working with couples, teens, families, and adult individuals.
Family is very important to Karishma and where most of her free time goes. Karishma loves to travel any chance she gets and loves to do unique activities such as white-water rafting, escape rooms, trying different restaurants and going places she’s never been. Her most favorite things however are drinking coffee, eating chocolate and watching tv.
